TODAY IN THE CLOSET:

FASHION AGEISM ~ FRIEND OR FOE?

Last week I had just put on a new pair of boyfriend jeans, the kind with the shreds that look random but whose location has strategically been calculated by some very chic jeans maker. Then I saw my Mom and she said “that’s a very appropriate look for someone your age”.  In case you’re not familiar with it, that’s Jewish mother sarcasm, I’m immune. Then she said I should get rid of them anyway because they were all ripped. Haha I love these jeans!
I never considered that I’m too old to wear them because I feel good in them.  In addition, as you know if you follow this blog, I have the live in fashion police that would never let me out of the house if I looked foolish. Seriously, bells and sirens go off at the front door!

The other day a women, (younger than me), was in love with the dress I was wearing. She kept on about it until I told her it was from Forever21 and then she went into a long dissertation about how she could never step foot in that store because It’s for teenagers.

I share a lot of clothes and accessories with my 21 year old daughter. We don’t wear them the same way and I’m certainly not advocating wearing a mini skirt when your 90, but if you have a preconceived notion of what’s ‘appropriate for your age' I’m suggesting you focus on your style and what you feel confident in and not what other people think you should or should not wear.

We'd never actually be seen together in the same pants of course but it did make a fun picture.

Hmmm could be either of us.

Her shoes found their way to my feet when I was styling the outfit below to wear to a friends 1930's themed wedding.

And this same red dress moonlights as a skirt under the Donavon Bentley City Tee Faux leather top in a Fashionloft8 outfit post here.

The hat gets around so we have two of them.

Hey I found my black flats!

And here's that little Nine West Cross Body Bag from my picture above.

Polka dot pants, yup.

On me.

 On her.

On both of us.

Here's the Kate Spade bag from above (a fab find) paired with her Donavon Bentley jumpsuit, coming soon. (I want one)
A favorite that we share is this DVF trench coat (a fab find) which looks good with just about anything and on any age. I think I will still wear it when I'm 100!

"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years."
— Audrey Hepburn

P.S. ~  Even when her jeans are ripped J
