After a very long campaign a while back I was finally persuaded to give in to the moving of our TV to over the fire place. I used to feel that only art or mirrors belonged over fireplace's but now that I've gotten used to it, I kind of like it. Since our fireplace is wood burning, and old, there was no way for any of the TV components to go inside the wall. So I had to put a table next to the fire place to accommodate the ugly Direct TV box. I love side tables, and have plenty to jockey around but I also had to leave the box showing enough so that the remote would hit it to change the channels. My first choice was a beautiful wrought iron base glass top table I got for a steel at at antique store in Ojai but this spot is very close to the back door in the living room, which leads to the garden, where you can find my husband, a lot, and by husband I mean a bull in a China shop. (sorry honey ;) I knew that glass top wouldn't last a day in that spot, maybe not even an hour! So I opted for this cutie with some beat up character marks. (I'm contemplating painting it.) When it comes to decorating I find that any combination of these key elements will take any space from drab to fab and make a great vignette, whether on a table top, shelf, mantel, dresser, etc.
- Books
- Candles
- A special memento you brought back from somewhere (always a good conversation starter)
- Lamp/lighting
- Plant/pot
- Fresh flowers
- Personal Photo(s)
Here are some fab, (and fab priced), end tables if you happen to be in need of a place to put your Direct TV box, or your wine ;)
